A well-designed mall navigation system elevates the customer experience.
During a recent trip to Bangkok, Thailand, we visited the Siam Centre and EmQuartier Malls to benchmark industry-leading signage and navigation systems.
At Forum Istanbul and Marmara Forum Shopping malls in Istanbul, Turkey, our design team developed two brand identities while integrating these elements into optimal navigation systems, covering both internal and external signage. Our approach prioritizes clarity and legibility by employing simple, easy-to-read fonts paired with high-contrast colour combinations between text and background to enhance visibility.
We design signage that not only aligns seamlessly with the mall’s identity but also ensures a cohesive and inviting brand experience. By weaving in thematic or branded elements, we create signage that truly reflects the mall’s personality. Each sign is thoughtfully placed at key decision points—entrances, intersections, and exits—so visitors can navigate with ease.
Our directional signage keeps things simple and straightforward, using clear arrows and concise messaging to guide people to their destinations. To make things even more convenient, we incorporate interactive digital kiosks with touchscreens and mobile-friendly store locators, so help is always just a tap away.
Accessibility is a top priority for us. That’s why we include braille and tactile signs for visually impaired visitors, and audio directions available via kiosks or apps. Our external signage is designed to be bold and visible, ensuring it’s easy to spot from nearby roads and parking areas.
Lighting is another area where we shine—literally! Backlit signs enhance visibility at night, and we use energy-efficient LED lighting to keep things eco-friendly. From transit stops to parking lots, our signs ensure a smooth journey into the mall.
Branding is woven into every element, with the mall’s colors and logos proudly displayed. We also make sure our signage stands up to the elements with weather-resistant materials, ensuring it stays clear and attractive with minimal upkeep.
Lastly, safety is built into everything we do. All our designs meet local regulations and are installed in ways that don’t obstruct drivers or pedestrians. This attention to detail makes for a worry-free and enjoyable experience for everyone visiting the mall.
