A client recently approached us to explore creative ideas and trends in fashion retail branding. During our research, we delved into the work of renowned photographer Mario Testino, who has collaborated with Michael Kors.
Michael Kors’ Holiday 2016 campaign, inspired by the vibrant energy of Las Vegas, features models Taylor Hill, Emmy Rappe, and Wouter Peelen. Captured by Testino, the campaign places the models against a backdrop of neon lights, evoking the opulence and excitement of the city.
Mario Testino stands out in fashion advertising and branding by employing three key elements: Kors' iconic fashion, millennial models, and abstract neon light imagery. His ability to blend these components has made him one of the most influential fashion and portrait photographers of our time. His work has graced the pages of globally renowned magazines such as Vogue and Vanity Fair, while contributing to the success of major brands including Gucci, Burberry, Versace, Chanel, Estée Lauder, and Lancôme.
Testino’s creative influence extends beyond photography. Over the course of his 40-year career, he has taken on roles as a creative director, guest editor, museum founder, art collector, and entrepreneur. While the world has long been familiar with his photography, fewer know about his impressive collection of contemporary art, ranging from sculpture to painting and photography. His engagement with fine art evolved through gallery visits and collaborations with artists, adding depth to his creative expression. As Testino himself said, "Just as photography allows me to live a new moment, art is a process of encounter and discovery.”
