Destination mall design in the Ukraine
Port City is a spectacular new architectural landmark planned for the City of Zaporozhye in the south of Ukraine.
The centre will successfully combine retail and leisure to offer a day out destination. Visit the luxurious Showcase 12-screen multiplex cinema showing the latest blockbusting movies with a licensed bar, café, ice cream outlet candy bar. Get your skates on and come down to our beautiful ice rink. In a picturesque setting, it’s bigger and better than ever before and promises fresh air, fun and exercise for the whole family. With restaurants, bars and cafes throughout our four Malls, you really are spoilt for choice at Port City. So whether it's a quick cappuccino to recharge your batteries or a candlelit dinner for two, you can find the ideal venue here.
We were approached by the management team of Continuum Holdings to develop an interior design for Port City that would push the boundaries of destination retail design.
The vision is influenced by nature, with water and light being recurrent themes. Four beautiful roof vaults appear to flow above the expanse of the malls, capturing, then diffusing light to striking effect. The interior has been conceived in a distinctive modern style influenced by Ukrainian culture, folklore and the local countryside. In this spirit, all gateways into this virtual city are designed to enhance the uniqueness of each threshold with emphasis on the strong Way-finding qualities of the civic art. Each ‘welcome hall’ is themed from one of the four elements leading to one of four Malls• Earth • Wind • Fire • Water. The malls are styled like balconied streets with ornamental balustrades with circulation on two floors.
